Hillbeck is situated in the beautiful Kent countryside, on the outskirts of the village of Bearsted, near Maidstone. Bearsted is a traditional English village with a number of quaint cottages, village pubs, restaurants as well as a large village green which hosts a variety of sporting and social activities.
Hillbeck Care Home in Maidstone began its life as a local doctor's home until 1990 when it was extended and converted into the charming care home that it is today. Charing Healthcare was delighted to acquire Hillbeck in December 2002 and undertook an extensive refurbishment programme to improve the property. Since then Hillbeck has had two further extensions, one in 2009 and another in 2015, both built to a high specification. The home stands in beautiful grounds, which are alive with colourful plants and wildlife throughout the year. There are several large bright lounge areas, leading out onto secure patio areas where clients can enjoy the panoramic countryside views and beautiful gardens.
Care at Hillbeck is delivered in a sensitive and respectful manner and aims to promote our residents’ physical and mental health. Our hope for people choosing to come to Hillbeck is that it will become their home and not just the place where they live. We strive to provide a high quality of care within a comfortable environment that feels alive.
A move into residential care leads to many changes for both the individual and their families and our aim is to make these changes as painless as possible by showing that residential care can be an enjoyable and positive experience. Clients are encouraged to join in with a wide range of daily activities that include arts and crafts, weekly films, cookery, bingo, music and movement, and therapeutic activities. Regular outings are arranged for those that are physically able, such as trips to the seaside and opportunities to watch nearby sporting events like a game of cricket or football on the local village green.
Every carer at Hillbeck is fully trained in the provision of care to the elderly living with dementia. Staff are also fully qualified first aiders and have studied infection control, moving & handling, fire awareness and many other relevant training courses on a regular basis. This ensures our standards never slip, our dedicated and professional staff regularly update their knowledge and caring skills by attending appropriate training courses.
Hillbeck is currently able to provide accommodation and high-quality care for sixty residents living with dementia. The majority of rooms have en-suite facilities and there are three twin rooms for couples or friends who wish to share. Some of our rooms have views of the grounds whilst others enjoy views of the countryside. All bedrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished, although clients are welcome to bring in small items of their own furnishings to personalise their rooms.
Along with the main communal areas, we have several large, bright lounges with televisions, where residents can enjoy their favourite programmes, participate in group activities or simply relax and enjoy the view from the windows, which overlook the beautiful grounds. There is ample seating for residents and their visitors in the communal areas but should clients require more privacy, they are welcome to entertain visitors in their rooms.
Hillbeck Care Home in Maidstone is blessed with a wealth of garden space, some of which is used as a large patio area where residents can sit and enjoy the good weather. We have a separate area with a large polytunnel where residents are encouraged to grow plants and vegetables.
We provide a seasonal menu at Hillbeck, with a choice of dishes for the 3 main meals a day, along with snacks and liquid refreshments in between meals. The menu is updated every 4 weeks and is focused on using fresh local produce. It is designed to provide a well-balanced, nutritional diet for our residents and all dishes are freshly cooked. Our menu's may vary slightly depending on the client's needs/likes. Please feel free to look at our Example Menu.
The care and staff at Hillbeck Care Home are of the highest level. They are friendly and always there to go through any problems or questions I may have. My mum is very well looked after and there are always activities for people to do, I can't thank the staff and the manager enough for the work they do and the care they have shown to my mum.
My father is extremely well cared for at Hillbeck care home, all the staff show respect and love towards him. The home is always a happy place to be in with everywhere being nicely decorated and always some form of activity/entertainment going on. The meals are very good and varied, and the manager's door is always open if I need to chat about anything.
In the year my mum has been a resident all Staff have always been respectful, and happy and treat everyone, residents and their families with empathy and compassion. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Questions are answered straight away. If the member of staff doesn't know or isn't sure they go and find someone who does know. A member of my family has health issues - any time residents show symptoms of any illnesses we are e-mailed and kept informed so we can make the decision as to visit or not. Safeguarding everyone is their priority. The manager has always answers my emails by return. I am always kept updated on all upcoming events. I couldn't wish for a safer place for my mum. I am confident and happy to recommend Hillbeck care home.
I visit my mum a few times a week and every time I visit I can see she is being well cared for. The staff at Hillbeck care home are superb at making sure she is well dressed, content and well catered for with food and drinks. The manager and deputy manager are very approachable and keep me well informed if there are any issues with Mum's day-to-day living.
As soon as we arrived at Hillbeck care home we knew that it was the right care home for our Mum. Hillbeck is light, airy, spacious and clean with good sized rooms and caring and friendly staff. Mum has a lovely room overlooking the garden and is well looked after by the staff who treat every resident as an individual. Mum has needed additional care as her Alzheimers has progressed but care needs are regularly reviewed and catered for. We can't praise the management and staff highly enough. We are kept well informed about Mum's care and families are made welcome for visits and invited to regular seasonal parties. Residents have a wide range of activities and entertainment opportunities. We would highly recommend Hillbeck care home to any families in need of an excellent care home for their loved ones.
I looked at 7 care homes with my sister-in-law and as soon as we walked into the friendly, clean, welcoming Hillbeck we both said ‘This is the one!’ Straight away I could feel the kindness of the staff and could see that it was very clean and welcoming and the residents looked happy and relaxed. I know my father-in-law is so well looked after and is content and all his needs are met. I can’t speak highly enough about the whole team, they are always warm but professional and go above and beyond. The family and I can sleep well knowing our loved one is looked after so well and I have recommended Hillbeck care home to many people. They have lifted a huge weight off of our shoulders as a family and can’t thank them enough.
The staff and management at Hillbeck care home are amazing. They went out of their way to accommodate my mother and treated her with kindness and dignity throughout her journey to the end of life. Myself and my siblings felt truly humbled by their support and care, they went above and beyond any expectations we may have had. Throughout our visits we saw their compassion extended to all residents and although my mother wasn’t able to take part in the activities they were plentiful and fun. We had looked at a lot of care homes and Hillbeck stood head and shoulders above all of them.
Our Mum was only in Hillbeck care home for four weeks sadly but the whole family was welcomed wholeheartedly by the team from the moment we first visited. The staff really do care for their residents and their families as individuals and nothing was too much trouble for them. The atmosphere in the home as a result is uplifting, head and shoulders above any other home we looked at. This is what we wanted for Mum. Being in Hillbeck enabled us to spend time with Mum without worrying about the distractions of her everyday living, as the staff did all of this. The physical environment is lovely too, light, airy and spotlessly clean. We cannot recommend Hillbeck highly enough and if I ever needed the type of care Hillbeck provides, this is where I would want to be.
Having looked at many care homes before choosing Hillbeck I can safely say I made the right choice, the care that has been given to my mother has been amazing. The staff are all so caring towards her and they take the time to speak to her throughout the day. There is a good selection of food with plenty of tea and coffee offered during the course of the day and her room is kept neat and tidy.
My mum moved into Hillbeck Residential Care Home recently, and since she’s been there, we have found the staff to be caring and approachable. The meals are good with there being lots to choose from and the rooms are well furnished and of a good size.
The staff and management at Hillbeck care home are first class with the care they give to my mother and other residents. The management team do an excellent job in keeping myself and my family informed on how our mother is doing, which is of great comfort to us. The cook and catering staff produce wholesome food and the housekeeping team do a great job in keeping all areas of the care home clean and smelling fresh.
I would like to thank each and every one of the wonderful people that work at this home. From January 2020 they looked after my father who suffered from dementia which became progressively worse until he passed away in October this year. The care he was given was exceptional and he was always treated as an individual and encouraged to do what he enjoyed. From the moment I first arrived with him, you could feel the happy atmosphere and see the people in your care were happy and well looked after, it felt like I was leaving him with family. Everyone I met at this home was friendly and helpful and you could see they truly cared about the loved ones we entrusted to them. During the Covid lockdown, they worked in difficult conditions but still made you feel welcome and kept us informed of all measures they were taking and why to keep our loved ones safe. I really cannot find the words to express my true thanks to these wonderful people who looked after my beloved father so well.
I am happy with the care my mother is getting at Hillbeck Residential Care Home. The staff are kind and respectful towards her and often when I visit have found the home and my mothers room to be clean. The food is excellent and always looks great with Hillbeck accommodating my mother's dietary requirements.
We looked at 17 homes. It was a depressing time. None of them felt right. Then we found Hillbeck. Thank God, we did. We just had a good feeling. Throughout Mum’s stay, we were always so pleased and impressed by the care she was given by all of you. She wasn’t one for crowds or music, and we know you gave her room to be herself. You treated her with the greatest care and dignity. We felt like you treated her like you would your own family. The peace of mind that gave us is simply immeasurable. You gave us the same love &care over the last few days, as we had to say goodbye to Mum. It was overwhelmingly emotional. You carried us through. One of the last things Dad said to us, was make sure Mum is looked after, won’t you? Because of you, and only because of you, we can say we did. There are no words in this world to adequately thank you for the love and care you gave my precious Mum in the last years of her life. Every single one of you are walking angels. We’re about to become grandparents ourselves. If, in a few years’ time, our granddaughter asks, ‘Are there angels in heaven, Grandad? I’m going to say, ‘Yes, but there’s some a lot nearer than that, they gather together at Hillbeck, and do wonderful acts of kindness for people who need them most – There’s definitely angels in this world, darling’
I am extremely pleased with the care my Mum is getting at Hillbeck Residential Care Home. Nothing is ever too much bother and the staff are always respectful towards my Mum with help always on hand when required. When I visit her the home appears very clean and the food always looks and smells good. For anyone looking for a care home for a loved one, I’d highly recommend Hillbeck Residential Care Home.
Hillbeck Is a great care home which is run and managed by kind, caring and committed staff who have looked after my father exceptionally well during his time there. Hillbeck is a lovely environment and is well suited for someone like my father who has dementia and is kept spotlessly clean and tidy.
I am very satisfied with all the special care and attention that my Mum has received in the home for the past year. Nothing is ever too much for any of the staff. I would highly recommend the care home.
My mum has been at Hillbeck Residential Care Home since December 2021. I am very happy with the care my mother is getting. All the staff are caring, kind and thoughtful; nothing is ever too much trouble. When I visit Mum, she always looks happy. It is very clear to me that she is being looked after very well. This gives me peace of mind knowing my mother is happy and safe.
My mum has been at Hillbeck Residential Care Home for some time now and during her stay there I have found the staff to be fantastic in the care they have given to her. I’ve always felt welcomed when I’ve come in to visit my mum and should my mum have any medical appointments the managers are prompt in letting me know when and what the appointments are for and why it’s needed. Overall I have no issues with the care my mum is getting at Hillbeck.
I am very satisfied with the care my father is getting. Not only are the staff caring and helpful but they all go that extra mile for him, nothing is ever too much trouble. The food is good and my father's room is spacious with en-suite facilities and is kept clean.
Hillbeck is an excellent all-round care home and I’m very pleased with the care my mother is getting. The staff are knowledgeable, caring and professional. When I’ve visited my mother she is always dressed appropriately and it is clear by just looking at her that she is receiving good care. There is a good choice of food and there is always a good positive atmosphere within Hillbeck.
I’ve found the staff at Hillbeck to be considerate and caring as they give so much care and attention to my mum and the other residents. I couldn’t be happier for having chosen Hillbeck to look after my mum, I have no regrets and am so thankful for the work they do. I have been kept informed about how my mum is doing through this pandemic as I speak to her regularly through Skype. The home always smells fresh and the home cooked food is wonderful.
All the staff and management at Hillbeck are amazing, I couldn't have wished for my Mum to be in a better place. She is always treated with kindness and respect. The home has a lovely environment and my Mum feels safe and secure. Her room is lovely, well decorated, clean and the food is of a high standard. Thank you all for the work you do!
I have nothing but praise for the staff, they all work extremely hard. My mum has been at Hillbeck a long time and throughout her time there I can safely say she has been well cared for. Everyone is well looked after, the home is always clean and the food is good.
Fantastic personal and very caring service. Clean, friendly with a family atmosphere. The rooms were like a home from home. The food was very good and regular. Most important was the carers and their excellent dedication and commitment and love shown to the residents and family members.
Hillbeck Residential Care Home has been where my mother has lived since September 2018. Since she moved in, she has been very well looked after. The home is always spotless; indeed it always smells clean and fresh, and I have no reason to think it has changed since lockdown. I visited my mother at the weekend for the first time since the beginning of March and, at all times, the staff ensured that my visit (within the current regulations that the home enforces) was as good as it could be. I met my mother in the courtyard and the staff ensured our safety was paramount. The visit was for 15-minutes only, but as there was not a visit immediately following mine, I was able to have a slightly extended visit. Much appreciated. I am extremely lucky that my mother is a resident at Hillbeck; she is happy and is very well looked after in a spotlessly clean environment. What more can I ask for?
My Mum has been at Hillbeck now for a few years. During her time there I have found the staff and management to be approachable and friendly. The home is kept clean and the food is good. It hasn't been easy not being able to see her due to the pandemic, but it has been made easier with the home keeping us up to date and arranging skype calls with Mum. For anyone looking for a care home, I’d highly recommend Hillbeck Care Home.
I would recommend Hillbeck Care Home without any hesitation to anyone needing support. The care they provide is absolutely outstanding, earlier this year I had to place my father in care as his dementia was escalating and my mother was unable to care for him properly any longer. My father was placed at Hillbeck for respite care and due to the extremely high standard of care he received there I requested that he become a resident as he was so happy there and I certainly didn’t want to cause him distress by moving him somewhere else. Since being there I have seen a real improvement both in his abilities, self-confidence and his level of happiness and this is due to the wonderful people that work at the home as it is evident to me that everyone that works at this home genuinely cares about the people they look after and do all they can to support them in any way they can. I really can’t express how much I appreciate all that's been done for my father as he is now actually enjoying life again.
All the staff at Hillbeck care home are great, nothing is ever too much trouble, and the staff are always in good spirits. You are always made to feel welcome, the staff ask how you are, and if there is anything they can do for you; should there be anything you need all you need to do is ask, and they’ll be more than happy to help. The home is odour free and kept very clean. There is plenty of outdoor space for the residents, and the home has an activity coordinator who organises a range of events and games for the residents.
Having worked at this home as an A/C up to 2015, having to then retire due to ill health. My love of thee caring for "my gang" resident and interaction prompted me to carry on at the home in a Volunteer position, so still interact with the staff and the gang. Sadly missing all at the moment, coronavirus lockdown.
My late mother was a resident at Hillbeck care home in 2012 - 2013. When my mother passed away, I asked if I could be a Volunteer at the home. I have now been very happy working at the home for many years now. I get a very good feeling when doing activities with the residents to see them smile and happy. Hillbeck has lovely staff and manager; it's a very happy home.
I live 250 miles from Hillbeck so having trust and faith in how my 90-year-old aunt was treated was paramount in my thoughts, not as though I could 'pop in' at a moments notice, and I also had local friends who visited regular, so kept me informed as to what was happening. The staff top to bottom were always caring and attentive and kept me informed at all times. I would never have any doubt about recommending Hillbeck Care Home to anyone.

Very much appreciated the care given and shown to my mother during her time at Hillbeck. All the residents are treated with respect, patience and kindness. Nothing is too much trouble. As a family, we were shown the same kindness and nothing was ever too much trouble for us either. All the staff deserve gold medals.
Satisfied with the home. The staff are nice and the manager is very efficient.
My wife and I have been visiting our dear old neighbour in Hillbeck on a weekly basis for the past two years and have always found the management and staff to be polite informative and helpful. My wife and I were instrumental in getting our dear friend placed in the care of Hillbeck after she suffered a really nasty fall and was hospitalized for some 5 weeks overcoming her injuries and loss of memory from her fall. I believe we are in a perfect position to make a sound judgement and assessment of care homes due to the fact that my wife and myself are members of a ukulele band that visits many different care homes around kent entertaining the residents with sing-along sessions, we have probably played in around 30 different care homes and I can honestly say that in our opinion Hillbeck is by far the most spacious, brightest, and enjoyable place to take our band to entertain the residents who along with the staff enjoy these sing-along sessions.
My mother was very happy in Hillbrook until her passing in 2013. I stayed on as a volunteer and am still holding that position today with another volunteer. I have a 92 year old uncle and would gladly recommend him to Hillbeck. I get on very well with the staff, always get a smile from them. I'm sure my uncle would be very happy at Hillbeck when the time comes.
Hillbeck is a lovely environment. The staff are kind and caring and nothing is ever too much trouble. There are two big outdoor areas for residents to go out and enjoy the sun in the warmer months and there is a good range of activities and entertainment that take place. We looked at several care homes before choosing Hillbeck and haven't regretted it.
Mum's room and the home is clean and tidy, the residents get given plenty of food and drink, we are kept informed about our mum's care and the staff and home manager are very approachable. I would recommend Hillbeck Care Home to anyone looking for a safe and caring environment for their loved one. Thank you so much.
Having worked in a care home environment for a good few years, I find Hillbeck to be a clean, comfortable home. Friendly staff that I've got to know well and always a happy atmosphere.
Dear Kerry & Heather, I wanted to express my most sincere thanks for looking after mum so well, especially in her last months before she passed away on 9th July 2018. Before you arrived Kerry, both myself & my family had had serious concerns about the ongoing care of Mum, soon after Mum came to Hillbeck approximately four years ago, to such an extent we considered moving mum somewhere else. We found such a massive improvement in the quality, motivation & attitude, of all your staff since you have taken over Kerry, it was a huge relief for all Mums family. When the time came to choose between Mum staying at Hillbeck or being hospitalised the choice was easy. We had so much confidence with all staff at Hillbeck care home to look after mums complex, specialist needs. Knowing mum was not alone in her last hours is a great comfort. We were extremely pleased to see Brian & Sheila at Mums service, they both add an extra "sparkle" to Hillbeck. Kerry, you have found some wonderful staff & volunteers for which we are extremely grateful, please extend our thanks to them all.
Just a note to pass on some positive feedback on my visit to Hillbeck with a view for respite for a friends husband who has early stage dementia. When we arrived there was a staff meeting so a young woman called Sally was asked to show us round. Sally is House Keeper/Receptionist. Having visited two other care homes earlier in the day we both came out of Hillbeck on a high. Sally was very warm and welcoming and is clearly passionate about the service provided by the staff at Hillbeck, stating several times during the tour how each resident is treated as an individual . Sally coped extremely well with a resident who was insistent about going outside, we were very impressed. Please pass on our sincere thanks to Sally and make sure her manager knows how lucky she is to have her on her team. All the staff we came across during our visit were very smiley and pleasant to each other.
Having the dilemma of your elderly family member suddenly needing permanent full-time safe care is a difficult decision at the best of times. When 250 miles separate the closest members of the family, that decision is much more difficult. Hillbeck Residential Care Home was a recommendation from my relative's neighbour having researched and visited local care homes in the area. One year on my satisfaction is immense. She has a lovely room she calls her 'flat'. Constant Care, medical and personal. Loves the company of the staff and feels the staff love her. The choice to "join in" or not to join in the many events is up to my relative, encouraged but not intimidated. A constantly changing weekly events programme. She enjoys her food, meals she recognised and enjoys, (slowly putting on weight). Constantly kept up to date if and when problems arise, safety and security excellent and with an excellent "engine room" of admin staff who make sure all units function as expected: I can relax feeling that my family member is well cared for so far away at Hillbeck Residential Care Home.
My mother's residency in a care home filled me with dread. She is 96 years old, a widow with dementia and macular degeneration. She has been a resident for 2 years and I have watched the interaction between staff/residents with growing admiration when dealing with their needs. The building is bright and the atmosphere is gently vibrant. Singing and laughter is often heard. Much is due to the appointment of the new manager some 18 months ago. Extraordinary effort is taken to stimulate interest and thereby enhance the quality of life of each resident.
My Mum has been at Hillbeck for almost years 6 years. It's such a happy home. All staff are dedicated and caring, ready to help or answer questions at all times. Some may be pushing cleaning trollies, delivering laundry, water just etc., - always busy, but make time for you and always answer Mum if she wants to talk to them. Food is excellent, - nutritious, varied and interesting. Always informed if the Doctor has had to see her. Good variation of entertainment and craftwork - carer very talented. When taking her back to Hillbeck, either by ambulance or taxi, from outings she's tired, always says "Glad to be home"! Means everything to me. Have nothing but praise for all members of staff at Hillbeck - they've made her 'Home'.
The management and staff at Hillbeck constantly go the extra mile to ensure that the interests of all their residents take top priority. Mother is now 93, with low-level dementia, and is very comfortable and content in her accommodation. Thank you.
Well done on getting your "Good" rating on your CQC report, its well deserved from what I have seen during my visits. We often read in the daily press about some care homes, which are so bad that they are immediately shut down. However I feel relaxed about J.G being at Hillbeck, knowing its run by an excellent team.
Thank you for taking such good care of Dad, especially in his last few weeks. I would like to say thank you to you all who made Dads last few weeks comfortable and dignified. I really appreciate the care and attention you gave to him.
A big thank you for the very great care and kindness you have shown in looking after Mum. She really thought of Hillbeck as her home.
To all the wonderful staff at Hillbeck. Thank you for being so loving, caring and attentive to her every need. i don't believe she could have been better loved or looked after anywhere else and Hillbeck really did become home for her. It was always a great relief to my Dad, to know that she was in your kind capable hands and i believe allowed him to pass in piece last year, knowing that she was happy and settled at Hillbeck. I can't praise highly enough the care staff who loved and tendered her this past two years, Thank you.
We would like to thank you all for your kindness & caring during my brothers time with you and your exceptional care during his illness, we are truly grateful.
